Panshan Mountain is located on the west side of Jixian County. It is a famous mountain in the Beijing-Tianjin area. There are many strange pines, grotesque rocks and flowing water on the mountain. And with different altitudes, three layers of scenery appear in turn, becoming the famous ‘three plates’ wonder. Because of its beautiful scenery, Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty toured Panshan Mountain 32 times and sighed, ‘If I had known there was Panshan Mountain, why would I go to the south of the Yangtze River?’.

Although Panshan belongs to Tianjin City, in fact, the distance from Beijing urban area is closer than that from Tianjin urban area. On holidays, tourists near Beijing and Tianjin all rush to play here, so there are many people. There are two cableways on the front mountain: Ruisheng Cableway (mountain gate – Wansong Temple), one-way fare is 60 yuan, which can reach the mountainside; YunSong Cableway (Wansong Temple – Yunzhao Temple), one-way fare is 60 yuan.

From the mountainside to Yunzhao Temple under Guayue Peak, it is very close to the top of the mountain. There is a Panshan sightseeing bus and Guayue cableway on the back mountain. They are sold in a package. The one-way fare is 100 yuan. After taking the sightseeing bus and cableway in turn, and then climbing a short distance, you can reach the top of the mountain. The highest peak of Panshan is only 864.

4 meters above sea level. But if you hike the whole way, it is about 30 kilometers. Although the mountain is not high, you have to cross several mountain tops, which is very tiring. A more reasonable arrangement is to take the sightseeing bus and Guayue cableway on the back mountain directly to the top of the mountain, and then walk down from the front mountain. It is about 12 kilometers from Guayue Peak to the mountain gate along the front mountain.

Guayue Peak: After climbing to the top of the mountain by taking the sightseeing bus and cableway on the back mountain, you can see the Dagoba of Sakyamuni’s relics. It is a stone tower and the symbol of the top of the mountain. Start to go down the mountain. If you are in good physical condition, you can choose to climb Zilai Peak, the second highest peak of Panshan Mountain at the fork in the road; if you want to save physical strength or have limited time, just go down all the way.

Top of the mountain – Wansong Temple: Pass through Yunzhao Temple, a very high temple on Panshan Mountain, Nantianmen, General Stone and other scenic spots and descend to Wansong Temple, the largest temple on Panshan Mountain (formerly known as Li Jing’an. Li Jing, a famous general in the early Tang Dynasty, once lived here). This section is the road passed by YunSong Cableway. If you hike, there are many dirt roads.

The road is not easy to walk and there are few scenic spots. But you can see the majestic natural scenery, rolling mountains, white clouds dotted in the blue sky. The strange pines on the upper plate and the grotesque rocks on the middle plate are all in full view. Wansong Temple – mountain gate: This section is the road passed by Ruisheng Cableway. The road is easier to walk. The scenic spots are concentrated.

There are many cultural scenic spots. And you can see the scenery of the lower plate where water is abundant. Hiking down the mountain, you will pass the pagoda forest composed of 99 tombs and pagodas of eminent monks of past dynasties with different shapes in turn; Tiancheng Temple, where the substitute monk of Emperor Qianlong became a monk. There is a Woyun Tower on the east side of the temple gate.

At the foot of the mountain opposite the building, there is the former site of a small stage. Emperor Qianlong once watched plays here. Further ahead, you can see Shuxia, one of the representative scenic spots of the lower plate where water is abundant. A waterfall falls into the pool like wisps of plain silk, bringing a cool feeling. Then keep walking and encounter a stone that looks like an ingot – Yuanbao Stone.

It is said that touching it can bring wealth.

When seeing the stone with the words ‘Rusheng’ handwritten by Ronglu, a military minister and governor-general of Zhili in the late Qing Dynasty, it means that the mountain gate is not far away. Every March and April, a temple fair is held in Panshan Mountain. At that time, you can see the scene performance of ‘Emperor Qianlong touring Panshan Mountain’, reproducing the grand occasion of Emperor Qianlong’s tour in the past.
