The Paleolithic Cultural Relics Museum in Beijing is located on the B3 floor of First Street, Oriental Xintiandi, No. 1 East Chang’an Avenue, Dongcheng District. It opened on December 28, 2001. This site was accidentally discovered by Yue Shengyang, a graduate student of Peking University during the construction of Oriental Plaza. As a result, the construction of Oriental Plaza was suspended for several months.

The Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences carried out rescue excavations on the site. During the excavation process, Academician Jia Lanpo of the Chinese Academy of Sciences who discovered the Peking Man skull, Academicians Hou Renzhi and Liu Dongsheng, as well as famous Chinese archaeologists Zhang Senshui and Lü Zune were all present to guide on site.

To protect this archaeological discovery, the Dongcheng District Government of Beijing and Oriental Plaza Co., Ltd. jointly invested in establishing a site museum dozens of meters deep underground in Oriental Plaza.
