The Peking Opera House is located in Beijing and is recognized by the Ministry of Culture as a key national Peking Opera troupe. It is a quasi-public institution under the supervision of the Beijing Municipal Culture Bureau. Established in 1979, it originated from the merger of the four major schools led by Mei Lanfang, Shang Xiaoyun, Cheng Yanqiu, and Xun Huizhi, known as the Beijing Peking Opera Troupe, and the Beijing Peking Opera Troupe led by Ma Lianliang, Zhang Junqiu, Tan Fuying, Qiu Shengrong, and Zhao Yanxia. The Peking Opera House boasts a powerful lineup, with a gathering of famous performers, diverse schools, and a rich repertoire of plays. It is open for exterior visits, but the interior is not open to the public.
