Penglai Courtyard is situated at No. 2 Xialu City Street, Jinan City, facing south with its main entrance to the west, exuding an air of quaint dignity. The entire structure is made of brick and wood, with small tiles covering the roof and distinctive ridges and upturned eaves. Upon entering, murals of ‘Marshal Zhao Gongming’ and ‘Marshal Wen Qiong’ adorn the walls of the gate hall on the left and right sides, respectively.

Beyond the gate hall, one steps into a courtyard, with the Penglai Courtyard comprising a southern and a northern compound. The southern compound features a grand hall to the north, known as the Lu Zu Hall. This hall spans three bays, with the City God to the east. Inside, statues of Lu Dongbin and two attendants are enshrined, with four disciples of Lu Dongbin placed on the eastern and western platforms.

In the northern compound, the grand hall to the north is a three-story pavilion-style structure. The first floor is slightly lower, serving as a basement for living quarters or storage. The second floor is the Queen Mother’s Hall, spanning five bays, with statues of the Western Queen Mother, Bixia Yuanjun, and Guanyin Bodhisattva. Murals on the east and west walls depict ‘The Bodhisattva Saving Eight Difficulties in a Moment,’ illustrating the story of the Bodhisattva saving eight people in peril within a quarter of an hour. Flanking the Queen Mother’s Hall are two side halls; to the west is the Ancestral Hall, honoring the founding master of the Taoist temple, Ruyi Zhenren, and to the east is the God of Wealth Hall, housing the statue of Guan Yu, the Saintly Lord.
