The Ping’an Grand Theatre is located in the commercial pedestrian street of Xiajiu Road. It is adjacent to Liwan Plaza and Minghui Mansion to the east, faces Shibaipu and Liusan’erlu Road and the inner ring road to the south, and is close to Changshou subway station to the west. With convenient transportation, it is a commercial gathering center. Since its establishment in 1953, the theater has taken performance operation as its main body, staging performances of various operas such as Cantonese opera and Quyi. Over the decades, according to market development, it has continuously changed and added business items. In 2001, the municipal government invested 20 million yuan to completely renovate and decorate it. With a business area of 3,075 square meters, it is equipped with performance venues, cinemas, karaoke, snack bars, Cantonese opera clubs, digital cinemas and clothing malls. It is a large-scale multi-functional cultural and leisure place. The Ping’an Grand Theatre has six screening halls with a total of 932 seats. Among them, there is one large theater (cinema) with 584 seats, which can be used for both performances and movies. The Yindu Hall, Yiying Hall, Luxury Hall, Jinma Hall and Global Hall have 128, 67, 60, 45 and 49 seats respectively. The large cinema is equipped with American CP6500 Dolby decoding and American JBL professional movie projection audio equipment. It has unobstructed vision, high-fidelity German lenses, clear picture restoration, and perfect audio-visual experience, making you feel as if you are in the scene. The Yindu cinema hall is installed with small Dolby movie professional audio equipment. The environment is comfortable with high-backed soft seats. The armrests are equipped with storage pads. The spacious lobby of the theater often holds weekend movie parties, premieres and press conferences, and actor meet-and-greets. The performance stage of the large theater is 13 meters wide, 7 meters high and 9 meters deep. It is equipped with 20 electric booms (scenery poles) and 90-channel electronic dimmers. It also has spotlight, return light and other stage lighting and a large dressing room, which is suitable for literary and artistic performance groups. It has received Cantonese opera troupes from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and Guangzhou city, as well as Guangzhou Song and Dance Troupe and Quyi performance groups.
