Pinghai Ancient Town was originally constructed in the 18th year of the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty (1385 AD). It served as a military fortress at the time and, although only the city gate tower and sections of the city wall remain, its rich historical heritage is still evident today.
During the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties, pirates were rampant off the coast of Pinghai Town. To fend off these marauders, Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang ordered the construction of Pinghai Fort. During the Kangxi reign, additional batteries were built on DaXing Mountain.

Although the ancient city walls have been submerged among modern residential buildings, and the number of preserved historical sites is not many, strolling leisurely through the narrow alleys still allows one to experience the charm of this place. It is open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day, with specific business conditions subject to daily opening status.
