Pingxiang Museum is located at 376 Binhe East Road, Pingxiang City. It is adjacent to the Autumn Harvest Uprising Square and Rainbow Bridge on the upper side, facing Jinluo Peak and Tiger-shaped Mountain. On the west side, it is close to the Pingxiang River, and on the lower side, it connects to Ehu Park. The main building of the new museum has six floors, reaching a height of 28 meters. It covers an area of about 26,000 square meters, and the building area is about 16,900 square meters. Inside, there are exhibition areas, folk custom areas, historical lecture halls, administrative office areas, audience service areas, etc. Pingxiang Museum is a specialized institution for protecting, researching, and displaying historical and cultural heritages and physical evidence of the human environment. It is a comprehensive modern museum integrating collection, archaeology, research, and display. In 2018, Pingxiang Museum was listed as a national second-level museum by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. Pingxiang Museum currently has 4,501 sets/pieces of cultural relics in its collection (actual number: 13,755 pieces). Among them, there are 21 sets/pieces of high-level cultural relics (actual number: 26 pieces); 74 sets/pieces of second-level cultural relics (actual number: 80 pieces); and 917 sets/pieces of third-level cultural relics (actual number: 1360 pieces). In addition, there are 517 pieces of various cultural relic specimens and 363 pieces of natural relic specimens, including 248 dinosaur egg fossils from the late Cretaceous period and a natural specimen with great archaeological value, a giant ganoderma lucidum that is ‘rare in the world and number one in Asia’. These collections reflect the development context, cultural features, and local natural heritages of Pingxiang in different historical periods from different aspects and angles. From 2002 to 2014, 248 dinosaur eggs were successively discovered in the Cretaceous red beds in Pingxiang area. In 2008, dinosaur skeleton fossils were discovered in the same geological layer in the same area, which is extremely rare in the country. Pingxiang has become one of the very important dinosaur egg fossil producing areas in South China.
