Known as the ‘First Cave Heaven in Jiangnan’, Pingyan Cave Mansion is a large natural scenic area in Hengdian. With its peculiar rocks, steep cliffs, deep grottoes, and the murmuring of brooks and springs, it naturally became a blessed land for Taoist cultivation. Along the steep cliffs, there are Taoist temples dedicated to the Jade Emperor, the Queen Mother, Huang Daxian, Hu Gong, and the Eight Immortals.
The breathtaking scenery of Pingyan Cave Mansion is the Jin Si Gully on Houyan Mountain. The gully is a straight and steep crevice from the top of the rock to the foot of the mountain, no more than one meter wide, but its depth seems unfathomable. A marvel of nature left in Pingyan Cave Mansion. If you stand on the top of the rock and look down into the gully, the phrase ‘abyss’ will undoubtedly come to mind, even though it is far from that depth. However, the vertical view can create an astonishing illusion. Many people, upon reaching this spot, will pick up a small pebble and gently toss it into the middle of the gully. Due to the uneven walls, the bouncing pebble will produce a series of clear and crisp sounds, as if someone casually played a little tune, until the pebble finally falls silent.
Pingyan Cave Mansion, with its various attractions, is imbued with magical Taoist legends. As you walk, listen, and savor these tales, the illusion feels as real as reality, providing endless enjoyment. The site is open all year round from 08:30 to 16:30.
