Pingzhu Chan Monastery is situated in the scenic area of Hua Guo Mountain, known for its tranquility within the Sanyuan Palace complex, where the elderly abbot resides. Originally established by Xie Chun during the Ming Dynasty, it was tragically burned down by Japanese invaders, leaving only the monastery gate. In 1984, the government funded its reconstruction.
Pingzhu Chan Monastery is also known as Songfeng Hall, Haosheng Hall, and Pingzhu Society, covering a modest area but achieving a high level of garden design. The monastery is a scenic complex that includes the Stamp Stele, the Golden Inlaid Jade Bamboo Forest, Hui Xin Spring, and the monastery itself. These four elements are interconnected and indispensable.
The Stamp Stele symbolizes the value of the Golden Inlaid Jade bamboo; the bamboo forest provides the environment, creating an ethereal atmosphere without a vast expanse of such bamboo; the spring is the source of life for the monastery, without which it would be arid and lifeless; the monastery is the main body of the entire scenic complex, integrating natural and cultural landscapes, complementing each other and becoming an important attraction of Hua Guo Mountain.
The opening hours are from 08:00 to 17:00 all year round. The specific opening times for the scenic area may vary with the seasons, and visitors should refer to the notices at the entrance for accurate information.
