Plum Rain Pond is located on the Cuwei Ridge in the Xianyan Scenic Area, below the Thunder Pond. The Rain Rock is steeply cut, with a waterfall hanging in the middle and crashing into the pond with a thunderous sound. The height of the waterfall is about several zhang, splashing down along the stone ridges, resembling a fine rain, hence the name Plum Rain Pond. Next to the pond, there is a pavilion with an outstretched wing. Leaning on the railing, one feels a chilling air that penetrates to the depths of one’s being, offering a refreshing sensation. Looking down at the pond, the clear green water shimmers, bringing a sense of tranquility and pleasure. A couplet written by Qing Dynasty literati Huang Tifang for the pavilion reads: ‘Looking up to see the pearls and jade falling from the nine heavens; sitting to hear the ancient sound of drunken flutes and bells.’ The contemporary literary figure Zhu Ziqing wrote the essay ‘Green’ inspired by Plum Rain Pond, which has been widely circulated. It is open all year round, accessible 24/7, with specific business status subject to daily operations.
