Poliujing is located on the flat ground at the southern foot of Gongchen Mountain. According to ‘Lin’an County Annals’, ‘When King Wusu was born, he had unusual appearances. He was abandoned in a well, but his grandma insisted on keeping him. Hence his infant name.’
Poliujing is about 5 meters deep, circular in shape, and built with blue bricks. There is an octagonal stone well curb on the ground.
Luo Yin’s ‘Ode to Poliujing’ says: ‘As for this well, it nurtures the spiritual energy of Kan. There are Shen and Tai, and indeed it stores heroes. Sometimes there is a long rainbow that pierces the blue sky. This is the kingly aura, a sign foretelling a great leader. Thus began the hegemony and laid the foundation for pacifying the common people. It nourishes the land of Zhejiang and matches the virtue of the East Sea.’
