The Nanhui Dongtan Wetland is located to the east of Dishui Lake, about 80 kilometers from Lujiazui. Due to its relatively far distance from the urban area and its vast reed shoals and original natural scenery, it is a place suitable for relaxing around Shanghai. It’s a great choice to bring your family here for a stroll on a rest day. In addition, the Dongtan Wetland is also a stopover for migratory birds traveling north and south.
With luck, you can see egrets taking off from the reeds. Outside the embankment of the Dongtan Wetland is the boundless East China Sea with surging waves. If you walk on the seawall and face the sea breeze, a magnificent picture will unfold in front of you: the wetland stretching as far as the eye can see is either bare like a desert or overgrown with reeds and weeds. There are patches of ponds and small rivers, sparkling under the sunlight. In the ponds, migratory birds of various sizes, black or white, are playing and foraging. Sometimes, in a flurry, they take off from the water surface and rush into the sky. And outside the majestic embankment, there is the vast sea with waves crashing against the shore and the sound of the waves like thunder. Not far away, the winding Donghai Bridge is faintly visible. Coupled with the occasional passing ships and the figures of fishermen pulling nets on the beach, it forms a dreamlike seaside picture.Opening hours: Open all day throughout the year.
