Putuo Mountain Buddhist Museum is one of the religious museums independently operated by the religious community in China to date, with its predecessor being the cultural relics display room located in the Puji Temple. It is a thematic museum primarily focused on the collection, protection, display, and research of Buddhist cultural relics from Putuo Mountain.
The museum is situated at the original site of the Tanhua Temple, No. 36-6 Xianghua Street, Putuo Mountain, adjacent to the national cultural heritage of the Yuan Dynasty’s Duo Bao Tower, the provincial cultural heritage of Puji Zen Temple, and the municipal cultural heritage of Baizi Hall. The exterior is designed in a Song Dynasty style, with a construction area of 3,643 square meters, a land area of 3,400 square meters, and a total height of 19.68 meters. The museum is divided into two levels and seven exhibition halls, housing over 1,700 Buddhist cultural relics, mainly including Buddhist sacred objects, imperial edicts, imperially bestowed kasaya, calligraphy and paintings, porcelain, bronze Buddha statues, and jade artifacts.
Opening hours: 08:00-17:00, open daily from January 1st to December 31st.
