The Qi Jiguang Memorial Hall is located on the north side of Zhenyang Gate. It is a symmetrical two-entry antique-style building facing south. The gate faces south, directly opposite Zhenyang Gate. On the east and west sides, there are four-column dougong cornice stele pavilions respectively. In the pavilions, there are steles with the character ‘loyalty’. The two characters face each other. The steles are 3 meters high and 1 meter wide. The backs of the steles are engraved with the life of Qi Jiguang and the life of Qi Jingtong (Qi Jiguang’s father) respectively. The exhibition hall of the entire memorial hall takes showing the national hero Qi Jiguang’s dedication to protecting the country and the people and his military life as the main line. At the same time, more than 20 cultural relics such as war knives and battle robes are exhibited. It has been identified as a patriotic education base in Shandong Province by the cultural relics administrative department of Shandong Province. Qi Jiguang (1528 – 1587), courtesy name Yuanjing, sobriquet Nantang, is from Penglai, Shandong Province. He comes from a military family and inherits the position of commander of Dengzhou Guard (now Penglai) by hereditary. His father, Qi Jingtong, is upright, well-versed in border affairs, and strict in military discipline. He has held important positions in guarding against Japanese pirates and garrisoning the border. Qi Jiguang inherits his father’s career. He has been guarding against Japanese pirates in Zhejiang and Fujian and garrisoning Jimen (now Jixian County, Tianjin) all his life, with outstanding achievements. He once wrote a poem himself: ‘Rushing north and south to report the loyalty to the monarch. The flowers by the river and the moon by the shore smile at my life. Three hundred and sixty days in a year, most of the time I am on horseback with a weapon in hand.’ Opening hours: Open all year round from 08:00 to 18:00.
