In the picturesque Qiandao Lake, nestled among verdant hills and crystal-clear waters, lies a romantic haven known as Youwuli Firefly Theme Park. This enchanting sanctuary spans over 1,500 mu, with a lush mountain forest teeming with diverse flora. A two-kilometer-long canyon traverses the park, graced by a perennial stream. The pristine ecology, unspoiled soil, water sources, and alpine wetlands create a one-of-a-kind habitat for fireflies.
Typically, fireflies have a brief viewing period of just 25 days. The newly hatched larvae are as small as millet grains, while the adult fireflies live for about 15 days. After six years of dedicated cultivation, the park has seen an increase in firefly varieties from four to seven, significantly enhancing their quantity, density, and viewing cycle. From mid-May to early October, as night descends, swarms of fireflies take to the skies, resembling sprites from folklore. The celestial canopy and the symphony of insects offer a respite from urban life, allowing you to bask in the serenity and enchantment of the rural night. Witness the dance of fireflies and let their ephemeral touch grace your fingertips.
Youwuli stands as a rare haven in China for firefly viewing, characterized by its multiple varieties, extended periods, vast areas, and untamed wilderness. It presents itself as a scenic area that blends dreaminess, romance, childlike joy, education, grandeur, and awe. Unique to Youwuli are the fireflies that respond to sound, the vast valleys with cliffs, and the fireflies by the waterfalls, all shaped by the terrain and geological features.
This summer, let us convene in Youwuli to encounter the fireflies.
Youwuli extends a warm welcome to all. The park is open from May 18th to September 18th, between 14:00 and 22:00.
