Thousand Feet Deep Valley is one of the sub-attractions of the Chuanyan Nineteen Peaks Scenic Area, located to the east of the Nineteen Peaks. With its profound valleys and crimson Danxia peaks, it is exceptionally beautiful. The area is known for being the filming location of popular martial arts dramas such as CCTV’s ‘The Smiling, Proud Wanderer,’ ‘Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils,’ and ‘The Legend of the Condor Heroes.’ There are two entrances to the scenic area: the north entrance is at the foot of Tai Tou Mountain. If you drive from Xinchang, you need to turn left before reaching Chuanyan Nineteen Peaks and pass by Chongyang Palace (an important filming location for ‘The Return of the Condor Heroes’) to reach the parking lot. Walking over the wooden bridge on Han Fei Creek and then a few hundred meters will lead you to the entrance of the scenic area, which is also the entrance from the Nineteen Peaks; the south entrance is about 700 meters from Xinpan Road. After the ticket office, there is a 600-meter-long tunnel through Thousand Feet Deep Valley, which is well-lit and cool. Walking for about seven or eight minutes, the scenery suddenly opens up, and you will arrive at the interior of the scenic area. Compared to the Nineteen Peaks, Thousand Feet Deep Valley has fewer visitors. There is no need to climb mountains here; most of the scenery is along bamboo forests and streams, making it an excellent choice for leisure and relaxation. The trails within the scenic area basically follow Han Fei Creek, which is relatively simple and easy to walk. To the north are two pictographic rocks, ‘Root of Life’ and ‘Mother of Life,’ while to the south are ‘Wolong Cave’ and ‘Mandarin Duck Pond.’ During the tour, if you pay attention to the mountains on both sides, you will find that each has its own unique features. For example, the ‘Fallen Stone Pile’ on the north side of the road looks like a golden seal that has fallen into the mortal world, with an unusually flat bottom; ‘Camel Offering Treasure’ stands with a lifelike camel hump; ‘Three Elephants Bathing’ clearly shows the elephant’s trunk, and the Wen Tianxiang Sword Testing Stone near the tunnel is a huge stone split in half, which is also a sight to see. If you are a fan of martial arts, you may feel a sense of familiarity with the scenery in the scenic area. You can enjoy the tour while recalling the plot of the TV series and comparing the scenes, enjoying yourself. There are also thatched houses like ‘She Diao Thatched Cottage’ in the scenic area, which have a bit of a martial world atmosphere. Some of them are farmhouses, where you can rest and have tea and meals after a long walk. If you want to climb mountains, the Nineteen Peaks to the west is a good choice. If you prefer something more relaxed, you can go to Chongyang Palace to the north of Thousand Feet Deep Valley, where you can not only visit the Taoist temple but also possibly encounter film crews shooting there. The scenic area is open from 08:00 to 16:00 from 10/11 to 4/11; from 07:30 to 16:30 from 4/12 to 10/10.
