Qin’an Hall was built in the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty. It is located in the central courtyard of the Imperial Garden and is a Taoist temple located on the meridian of Beijing’s central axis. The roof of the hall is a double-eaved pyramidal roof. The white marble stone railings around the base of the hall are exquisite stone carvings in the Forbidden City. Inside Qin’an Hall, Xuantian Shangdi is enshrined. He is the god of the north in Taoism. During New Year’s Day and festivals in the Qing Dynasty, a Dou altar and Taoist ceremony would be set up here, and the emperor would come here to burn incense and pay respects.
