Qing Yongling is located at the foot of Qiyun Mountain in Yongling Town, Xinbin Manchu Autonomous County. It is the cemetery of Nurhachi’s distant ancestors, great-grandfather, grandfather, father, uncle and great-uncle. It was built in 1598. In the 8th year of Tiancong in the Qing Dynasty (1634), it was called Xingjing Mausoleum. The construction of Yongling started in 1598 and was completed in 80 years by 1677.
Originally, only the clothes and hat of Nurhachi’s sixth-generation ancestor Mentemu and the remains of his great-grandfather Fuman were buried. During the Shunzhi period, the burial place was named Xingjing Mausoleum and the mausoleum mountain was Qiyun Mountain. Later, the remains of Nurhachi’s grandfather Juechangan, father Takshi, Lidun and Tachapiangu were moved here from Tokyo Mausoleum in Liaoyang. In 1659 of the Shunzhi period, it was renamed Yongling. In the middle of the south side of Yongling is the Zhenghong Gate, with three bays in width. It is of hard mountain style with yellow glazed tile roof. There is a kiss on the main ridge and beasts on the hanging ridges. Inside the gate, there are four stele pavilions arranged horizontally. Inside the pavilions stand four tall steles of the ‘Four Founding Ancestors’ who initiated the imperial cause of the Qing Dynasty: ‘The Original Ancestor Emperor’ (Mentemu), ‘The Upright Ancestor Emperor’ (Fuman), ‘The Winged Ancestor Emperor’ (Juechangan) and ‘The Manifest Ancestor Emperor’ (Takshi). The steles are engraved with eulogies such as ‘inheriting the family and founding the country’ and are written in Manchu, Mongolian and Chinese characters. On the east and west sides of the stele pavilion, there were originally buildings such as the prayer board room, the orderly room, the tea and meal room, and the utensil washing room. To the north of the stele pavilion is the square city. In the middle of the south side of the enclosure wall is the Qiyun Gate. There are double kisses on the main ridge and six dragons playing with pearls. The centers of the screen walls on both sides of the gate are brick-carved yellow dragons before and after.Opening hours: Open from 08:00 to 17:00 from March 16 to November 7; Open from 08:00 to 16:00 from November 8 to March 15.
