The Qing’an Guild Hall is also known as the Maritime Folk Customs Museum of Eastern Zhejiang. It is not only a hall for worshipping Mazu, the Heavenly Queen, but also a place for industry gatherings. Qing’an Guild Hall (Maritime Folk Customs Museum of Eastern Zhejiang) is a model of modern wooden architecture in Ningbo. Its plane is longitudinally rectangular, facing west from east. The buildings on the central axis are successively Reception (Water) Pavilion, Screen Wall, Palace Gate, Ceremonial Gate, Main Hall, Back Stage, Back Palace, left and right wing rooms, side rooms and ancillary rooms. The architectural form of integrating palace and guild hall and having double stages at front and back is rare in China, fully reflecting the characteristic functions of the Heavenly Queen Palace and industry guild hall shining brightly together. There are more than 1,000 pieces of vermilion-gold wood carvings and more than 200 pieces of brick and stone carving artworks on the guild hall building. Adopting the traditional carving techniques of Ningbo, it fully reflects the highest level of carving art in eastern Zhejiang region in the Qing Dynasty and also provides physical examples for studying China’s carving art. The exhibitions of the Maritime Folk Customs Museum of Eastern Zhejiang mainly include five basic exhibitions such as ‘Mazu Worship Scene Display’, eight murals of ‘The Holy Traces of Heavenly Queen’, continuous half-panoramic painting of ‘Mingzhou and Mazu’, ‘Mazu and Chinese Red’, ‘Ningbo and the Maritime Silk Road’ historical sites and a special exhibition of ‘China · Ningbo Ship History Exhibition’.
