Qingdao West Coast New Area is located on the west bank of Qingdao City, Shandong Province, encompassing the entire administrative region of Huangdao District, including Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone and the former Jiaonan City, with a land area of approximately 2096 square kilometers and a maritime area of about 5000 square kilometers.

The West Coast New Area is the 9th national-level new area approved by the State Council, situated within the Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone and the Bohai Rim Economic Circle, at the core between the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and the Yangtze River Delta metropolitan areas, facing Japan and South Korea across the sea, and possessing a strategic advantage in connecting the east and west, and linking the north and south. It is the main maritime outlet of the Yellow River basin and an important eastern endpoint of the Eurasian Continental Bridge.
