The Qingyuan Covered Bridge Museum is the first covered bridge-themed museum in China. The total area of the museum is about 3,000 square meters. It adopts the architectural concept of ‘integrating bridge and museum’. The shape has upturned eaves and is majestic. The color tone is concise, stable, simple and solemn, like a single-span wooden arch covered bridge standing among green mountains and clear waters. The use of covered bridge elements such as wind and rain boards, geometric windows, and caisson ceilings is in harmony with the overall style of classical architecture. It not only pays attention to the functional layout but also takes into account the characteristics of Qingyuan covered bridges. The basic exhibition in the museum is themed ‘Rainbow on Earth, Dreamy Covered Bridge’, and is divided into seven parts: the prologue hall, ‘History Chapter – Dreaming of Covered Bridges’, ‘Technique Chapter – Extraordinary Ingenuity’, ‘Nature Chapter – Rainbow on Earth’, ‘Humanities Chapter – Have a Special Fondness’, ‘Protection Chapter – Holding Hands with Covered Bridges’, and the epilogue. Through high-tech means such as multimedia projection, touch query interaction, large-screen projection imaging, three-dimensional animation, and seamless splicing of 3D projections, with the help of many covered bridge models of different shapes, the physical materials are effectively combined with modern exhibition methods to improve the exhibition level. In addition, the affiliated exhibition hall ‘Ceramic Remnants’ reveals the spirit of the people of Qingyuan who are hardworking, diligent, upward-looking, courageous in innovation, and harmonious and progressive through the display of physical remains of kiln sites in various periods within Qingyuan. It further enriches the exhibition content of the covered bridge museum and reflects the profound cultural heritage and humanistic connotations of the hometown of covered bridges for more than 800 years.
The opening hours are from 08:30 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00 all year round.
