During the Guangxu period, a man from Ba County named Yang Pei, who repeatedly failed his imperial examinations, wandered here in despair. He encountered an ascetic monk resting by the roadside, whose feet were blistered from worn-out straw sandals. Yang Pei, moved by compassion, gave the monk a spare pair of shoes from his bag. The monk was deeply grateful and advised Yang Pei to perform good deeds once he became an official.
Later, Yang Pei indeed succeeded in the imperial examinations and, due to personnel changes, became the magistrate of Ba County. As an official, Yang Pei continued to do good deeds and returned to this place to repair the Tanzi Stone Bridge, benefiting his neighbors. Thus, the bridge was named Qingyun Bridge, and it is said that crossing this bridge brings prosperity and success in one’s career. With the development of society and the changes of times, the original stone bridge had been destroyed. Chongqing Merchants Land Development Co., Ltd. invested heavily to rebuild Qingyun Bridge, integrating various carvings such as round, high-relief, and low-relief sculptures. The bridge railings are engraved with the story of Yang Pei’s rise to success as a memento. Four divine beasts and the Eight Immortals guard the bridge, symbolizing the rise to success and safety.
The layout of the bridge includes: 1. Yang Pei’s impoverished youth, helping his mother make shoes for a living; 2. Yang Pei failing his exams; 3. Yang Pei wandering to a broken Tanzi Stone Bridge in despair; 4. Encountering a resting ascetic monk; 5. Giving the monk a spare pair of shoes from his bag; 6.
