Nawu Mountain Forest Park, a renowned peak, stands majestically on the border of three counties: Qinzhou, Lianzhou, and Lingshan. The summit reaches into the clouds, often encircled by lingering smoke, which is how the mountain earned its name. The mountain boasts lush vegetation, offering a picturesque landscape and a unique allure. Scattered across its slopes are an array of peculiar rocks, many named for their resemblance to living things—stone turtles, stone pythons, husband and wife stones, reclining immortal stones, arhat stones, and more, each vividly shaped.
The mountain is also home to extensive bayberry and Sanhua plum orchards, renowned for their superior fruit quality. Every Double Ninth Festival, Nawu Mountain draws tens of thousands of tourists from the surrounding areas of Guangdong and Guangxi. They come to climb the mountain, take in the views, and visit the Bo’e Mountain Temple to offer incense and pray for blessings. Bo’e Mountain Temple, also known as Langan Temple, was constructed during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. It underwent renovation during the Republic of China period and enjoyed a period of great prosperity. Today, it stands as a prominent temple in the region, with its sweet spring water still flowing and the sounds of Buddhist chants echoing, safeguarding the well-being of the community.
Within the Nawu Mountain Ecological Park, the Guanhai Tingtao Pavilion and the Sun and Moon Tonghui Pavilion perch atop the northern and southern peaks, respectively. On a clear day, from the Guanhai Tingtao Pavilion, one can catch a glimpse of the sails speckling the Beibu Gulf.Wishing Island, by the Beibu Gulf, is the highest viewing platform in the area. During the Cultural Revolution era, a group of educated youths were assigned to Nawu Mountain to plant tea trees in the tea garden. It was on Wishing Island that a male educated youth met a local girl by chance, and they fell in love, supporting each other ever since. The girl claimed to have left all her beautiful thoughts on the island, and they have been realized one by one. This romantic tale has kept the name of Wishing Island alive to this day.
The educated youth tea garden is the precursor to the Nawu Mountain Ecological Park. In those years, the educated youths reclaimed wasteland and planted tea here. Nawu Mountain, with its granite soil layer, is surrounded by clouds and mist throughout the year and boasts high-quality water sources. The tea grown in this environment is known for its fragrance, mellow flavor, and rich aftertaste. It has become a symbol of the educated youth sentiment and a highlight industry of the Nawu Mountain Ecological Park.
The ancient well, originally a spring surrounded by several large stones, was later built with blue bricks by the educated youths and became the source of drinking water for them. The spring water is cool and sweet, and according to tests by relevant departments, all indicators of this well meet the standards for drinking purified water.
