Qiushui Villa, named after Shen Qiushui, the beloved wife of Shi Liangcai, the titan of Chinese journalism in the 1930s and owner of Shanghai’s Shenbao newspaper, is a Jiangnan-style courtyard building. Covering an area of approximately 200 square meters, the villa is surrounded by gardens and enclosed by walls and iron gates along Beishan Road.
Originally named Shen Huizhi, Qiushui was once a young courtesan in late Qing Dynasty Shanghai.

She later met Shi Liangcai, who shared her love for drumming, and they settled in Hangzhou together. Shi Liangcai’s financial support from Qiushui enabled him to purchase Shenbao and Xinwenbao, establishing himself as a newspaper magnate.
However, Shi Liangcai later took another mistress, and out of guilt, he bought a villa for Qiushui beside the West Lake at Geling, which is now known as Qiushui Villa.

Today, Qiushui Villa is part of the New New Hotel, where guests can stay or enjoy tea and lake views. The villa is open to the public from 09:00 to 21:00 all year round.
