There are currently three bell towers in Quanzhou. The oldest one is the West Street Bell Tower built in 1934, which is also the default bell tower in the hearts of Quanzhou citizens. The other two were built in modern and contemporary times.
The Quanzhou Bell Tower is a standard bell tower built in 1934 when the crossroads of East-West Street was constructed and was completed the following year. The bell tower is 13.8 meters high and was designed by a British-educated designer, featuring a European style.

The Quanzhou Bell Tower, together with the East and West Pagodas and the Drum Tower, has become a unique scenery in the ancient city, attracting tourists from home and abroad.

At present, the mechanical clock in the bell tower has been replaced by a quartz clock, and festival lights have been installed on the bell tower. The bell tower emits a new brilliance under the night sky, becoming even more dazzling.
