In Fangcun, Guangzhou, there is a well-preserved ancient architectural complex from the Qing Dynasty – Julong Village. It is said that this ancient village with a history of more than 110 years still has hundreds of people of all ages living in it. The large houses with black bricks in Julong Village have their wall bases made of whole flagstones. The gray carvings on the lintel are painted with patterns of wealth, honor and auspiciousness.

The doors of the large houses are divided into several layers. From the outside to the inside, they are the side door, the sliding door and the main door in sequence. The interior designs of the buildings in Julong Village are more or less the same. There are three screen doors for decoration in the hall. Many of the wood carvings on the screens have lost their colors due to a long history, but they add more primitive elegance.

On both sides of the hall are symmetrical. There are four rooms on each side. There are a total of five rooms on the second floor. Some colored windows are inlaid with excellent poems and sentences. In the alleys, several ‘oyster shell houses’ can also be seen. They use black bricks as pillars and oyster shells to build walls. They are larger in scale and have higher walls than the ‘oyster shell houses’ next to the school.

Almost two stories high. The difference is that the oyster shell houses next to the school have even their pillars built with oyster shells. Open all year round and open all day.
