Rong Zongjing was a renowned modern Chinese industrialist and capitalist. His former residence, a Western European-style countryside villa, is one of the few luxurious mansions in the Bund area of Shanghai and is also one of the well-preserved large garden houses with a backyard in the city center. This three-story brick-concrete structure is enveloped by a carved stone low wall that conceals the true appearance of the building.
It is an independent three-story Western-style residence with a garden, featuring exquisite detail design: the windows are uniquely shaped and composed entirely of stained glass, which is still well-preserved to this day. The ground floor boasts a spacious porch and tall columns, exhibiting characteristics of French classical architecture. The door lintels and window sills are adorned with fine carvings; the red building corners peek out from the trees, and to the south lies a clean and flat lawn.
