Sai Kung East Country Park

Sai Kung East Country Park is composed of the eastern peninsula of Sai Kung and High Island. It includes areas around High Island Reservoir, High Island, Big Wave Bay, Pak Tam Au, Sheung Yiu and Wong Shek Pier. It is a country park with multiple bays. Here is also the starting point of the MacLehose Trail, a popular hiking trail in Hong Kong. The four bays of Big Wave Bay in the park are Sai Wan, Ham Tin, Tai Long Wan and Tung Wan.

There is also Sharp Peak, which is known for being difficult to climb and is famous in the hiking community. There are also Po Pin Chau, Long Ke Wan, Luk Wu, Tai Tan Hoi Hap, Chek Keng and others, all within the park. Sharp Peak, which is 460 meters high, although only ranked 16th among the major peaks in Hong Kong, due to its sharp and prominent mountain shape, has become an easily visible landmark of Sai Kung East Country Park.

If you want to head to Sharp Peak, you need to have rich hiking experience and better physical fitness and endurance, but the effort is definitely worth it. Along the second section of the MacLehose Trail, starting from Pak Tam Au, passing through Chek Keng and climbing up to Tai Long Au, the pleasant bay scenery is already in front of you. Continuing to advance towards Sharp Peak Au and walking along the inclined and sandy mountain path really requires caution at every step.

But when you reach Sharp Peak and stand at one of the places in Hong Kong to enjoy the coastal scenery, overlooking the magnificent scenery of the four bays of Big Wave Bay, the exhilarating feeling is self-evident. The four bays of Big Wave Bay are located in remote areas and are rarely visited on weekdays, so they still retain a strong primitive atmosphere. Looking at the continuous smooth fine sand being slapped by waves is truly refreshing.

There are also multiple hiking trails in Sai Kung East Country Park. The Luk Wu hiking trail is designed for energetic and experienced hikers. Along the way, the scenery is beautiful. Tourists can overlook the Clear Water Bay Peninsula, High Island Reservoir and Ma On Shan. The Pak Tam hiking trail was originally a rural ancient path. Tourists can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Kau Sai Chau, Yim Tin Tsai, Kiu Tsui and Kau U Fong along the way.

The Sheung Yiu hiking trail is a gentle path throughout the entire section. Along the way, tourists can overlook the scenery of Cham Chuk Wan, Yim Tin Tsai, Kau Sai Chau and other inner seas of Sai Kung.
