The San Zhe Pu Scenic Area is adjacent to Lingfeng in the east and Lingyan in the west. It includes scenic spots such as Jingming Temple, Martyrs Cemetery, Tiechengzhang, plum blossom piles, and old monkeys wearing clothes. Among the numerous waterfalls in Yandang Mountain, San Zhe Pu is particularly peculiar. Especially the middle fold waterfall is regarded by some as the ‘number one scenic spot in Yandang Mountain’.
It is said that the middle fold waterfall is contained in a cooled volcanic crater. Fire and water are so antagonistic and yet coexist. San Zhe Pu cascades down three cliffs and forms three waterfalls: upper, middle, and lower. Ascending 200 meters from the steps on the left side of the martyrs’ cemetery is the lower fold waterfall. The waterfall faces south and is 50 meters high. It is in the shape of a gourd and is called ‘Gourd Heaven’. There is a cave facing west on the side, called ‘Longyou Cave’. Returning to the original fork from the lower fold waterfall and walking up for 15 minutes is the middle fold waterfall. The waterfall is more than 120 meters high and faces east. When the waterfall falls into the pool, it will emit bursts of melodious sounds. There is a circular stone path built along the pool. Going around behind the waterfall and through the curtain of water, the distant mountains are faintly visible, presenting a unique flavor. Especially around 9 am on a sunny day, when the sunlight shines through the rock crevices and reflects on the waterfall, a colorful rainbow is formed, which is extremely magnificent and amazing. Walking up a section of the ridge from the middle fold waterfall, there is a ‘Yixing Pavilion’ built on the left mountainside. Further up is the upper fold waterfall. The waterfall faces south and is more than 100 meters high. The waterfall spills into the pool from the top of the urn-shaped cave, making a rustling sound and stirring up beautiful sprays. Exiting the upper fold waterfall, the ‘Wanghai Pavilion’ on the right ridge is in sight.
