Sando Bay is renowned for its unique landscapes and elegant beauty. Within the bay, there are many reefs and bays with various shapes, such as ‘Golden Turtle Carrying Pearls’, ‘Kunpeng Spreading Wings’, ‘Wild Horse Looking Back’, ‘African Elephant’, ‘Chicken Cage Islet’, ‘Ancient Ape Man’, and ‘Bijia Mountain’, all vividly depicted. The peculiar peaks and strange rocks, along with the beautiful scenery, attract numerous visitors annually.
The Sando Bay tourist area is primarily concentrated in the southeast of Sando Bay and can be divided into five parts: Doum Scenic Area, Fu Customs Site, Qingshan Scenic Area, Bijia Mountain Scenic Area, and Jigong Mountain Scenic Area. In addition, there are three major attractions: ‘Marine Fishing City’, a national agricultural tourism demonstration site, Sando Military Port, and marine landscape appreciation.
The Doum Scenic Area is located on Doum Island, showcasing the best of Sando Bay’s scenery. The island is scattered with peculiar rocks, including the famous coastal wonder in China – the Spiral Shell Rock. The Spiral Shell Rock is located on the eastern seaside of Doum Island and is an iconic rock attached to a stone wall with an inclination of over 60 degrees, named for its resemblance to a spiral shell. The rock measures 6.5 meters in length, 3 meters in height at the head, 6 meters in total height, 3 meters in width, and has a circumference of 15 meters. It is a hollow rock with an interior space that is 1.2 meters high, 3 meters long, and 1.5 meters wide at its widest point, capable of accommodating 7-8 people at a time. The head of the Spiral Shell Rock is large and round, while the tail is small and slightly spiral-shaped. The hollow interior opens at the tail end of the shell, with an opening height of about 1 meter. It is one of the largest, most realistic, and unique hollow spiral-shaped rocks discovered to date.
On the right side of Doum Island, in a mountain recess, there are many stone formations known as ‘Tan Cuo’, resembling a maze cave, which is a major spectacle of the Doum Scenic Area. These Tan Cuo are naturally piled up by huge rocks rolling down from the mountains on both sides of the recess, resulting in a cave with rugged stones, winding paths, and descending to the cave’s midpoint during high tide, and reaching the seabed during low tide. The Doum Scenic Area also features attractions such as ‘Doum Stone City’, ‘Rhinoceros Looking at the Moon’, and the five life aspirations of ‘Fortune, Prosperity, Longevity, Happiness, and Wealth’, each crafted with divine skill and lifelike detail.
The seaside trail carved on the cliffs is an excellent place to appreciate the sea. Doum Island is also the site of Doum Niang Niang, with many ancient and mysterious legends that make visitors feel as if they are in a mythical world.
The entire area is open year-round from 09:00 to 18:00.
