Sanlitun is located in the central-western part of Chaoyang District, named after its three-mile distance from the inner city of Beijing. As a geographical term, it broadly refers to the area enclosed by Zuojiazhuang, Chaowai Street, Hujialou, and Maizidian.

After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Sanlitun area began to establish embassies and gradually evolved into a significant community for diplomats residing in China, shopping, and hosting foreign affairs activities.

Today, Sanlitun has become a landmark for Beijing’s fashionable and trendy lifestyle. Its bar street and nightclubs are the primary entertainment destinations for young people in Beijing at night. The emerging shopping centers and trendsetting brand stores have further positioned Sanlitun as the vanguard of fashion in the capital.
