The Sanping Temple enshrines the eminent monk Yang Yizhong, the pioneer founder, and is respectfully called ‘Sanping Patriarch’. Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty bestowed the title ‘Master Guangji’. Sanping Temple was first built in the Tang Dynasty in 866 AD. Till now, the incense is prosperous. It has long been renowned in southern Fujian, Hong Kong, Macao and Southeast Asia. Pilgrims come in an endless stream. Especially on the sixth day of the first lunar month, the sixth day of the sixth lunar month, the sixth day of the eleventh lunar month every year and the birthday, ordination and passing away days of the Sanping Patriarch, it is extremely bustling with people and filled with incense smoke. The existing temple was rebuilt in the late Qing Dynasty. The whole temple is built along the mountain, with buildings such as the mountain gate, the main hall of Sakyamuni, the ancestral hall, the dining hall and monk rooms, the pagoda hall and the bell and drum towers on the second floor. The structure is rigorous. In recent years, supporting facilities such as Guangji Garden, Bai Guo Yuan, Ying Ke Yuan and Yangsheng Mountain Villa have been built.
