The Sansheng Stone is located in Lingyin Temple in West Lake, Hangzhou. The legend of the Sansheng Stone in the temple represents the Sansheng Stone of ‘past life, present life, and future life’. Ancient Chinese love – the love between Baoyu and Daiyu began from the previous life by the Sansheng Stone. The Sansheng Stone is located at the eastern foot of Lianhua Peak behind Fajing Temple in Santianzhu, Hangzhou.
It is one of the ‘sixteen relics of West Lake’ mentioned in ‘Fine Tales of West Lake’ by Molangzi of ancient Wu in the early Qing Dynasty. The stone is about three zhang high and is composed of three natural limestone blocks. The three seal characters ‘Sansheng Stone’ are engraved on the stone. Passing the screen wall in front of Lingyin Temple with the words ‘very close to the Western Paradise’, walk forward and enter Tianzhu. There is a small brook with clear bottom by the roadside. Not far away, there is a small stone bridge. After crossing the bridge, go up from that path and keep walking. In just five or six minutes, you will arrive at the Sansheng Stone. In fact, the stone is inconspicuous. It only becomes legendary because of the engraved characters. There are few people around. Only some large stones of different shapes are scattered in the deep green. Standing here, one will think of the phrase ‘the seas run dry and the rocks crumble’. Looking at this Sansheng Stone which represents ‘past life, present life, and future life’ in the legend, the lover beside one becomes extremely endearing. Open all year round, open all day.Sansheng Stone
