Sanzao Island is located 28 kilometers southwest of Xiangzhou and west of the Wanshan Islands. It is a large island among the Wanshan Islands. It is located at the outlets of the Modaomen and Jitimen rivers. It is about 6.5 kilometers west of Nanshui and 7.25 kilometers southwest of Gaolan Island. According to legend, as early as before the Ming Dynasty, there were three stone stoves in Lankeng Village. Fishermen often came here to light fires and cook meals, hence the name. The island is composed of four unconnected peaks, Lanlang Mountain, Guanyin Mountain, Maotian Mountain, and Huangzhu Mountain, and several large plains in Sanzao and Haicheng. The middle of the plain is low. The altitude of Lanlang Mountain is 307 meters. The geology is granite structure. The land is fertile, the forests are verdant, and there is sufficient water source. There are commemorative ‘Ten Thousand People’s Tomb’ and ‘Thousand People’s Tomb’ for the island residents who were killed by the Japanese invaders on March 13th and 14th in the lunar calendar in 1938.
