Shengjing Mountain is a branch of the south extension of Kunyu Mountain, the first mountain on Jiaodong Peninsula. It is named after having ‘sages’ and ‘holy scriptures’. Kunyu Mountain was once praised by Cui Hong, a historian of the Northern Wei Dynasty, as the ‘ancestor of the fairy mountains on the sea’. The main peak, Taibo Peak, is 923 meters above sea level. It faces the Yellow Sea in the south and there is a high mountain lake with a storage capacity of 10 million cubic meters in the north. It is an ideal summer resort. Shengjing Mountain not only has its unique natural scenery but also contains rich Taoist cultural resources. It is the birthplace of the Quanzhen School of Taoism in China. So far, many Taoist relics such as Hunyuan Hall, Sanqing Hall, Sanguan Hall, Tombs of Immortals, Chaoyang Cave, Laojun Temple, Dragon King Temple, Mountain God Temple, Donghua Palace, Donghua Cave, Yuhuang Pavilion, Tianmen Gate, and Sleeping Immortal Stone are still left on Shengjing Mountain. It has formed the ‘landscape culture’ characteristic integrating Taoist culture, ancient and modern calligraphy and stone carvings, natural scenery and modern civilization.
