The Nan’ge Memorial Archways are located in the Xianshengmen Scenic Area, at the entrance of Nanzhou Village, Xianxi Town. Nan’ge is the entrance to the Xianshengmen Scenic Area. On a straight street paved with pebble patterns, five memorial archways stand. On the tall red plaques are written in large golden regular script characters: ‘Jinshi of Successive Generations’, ‘Enlightened Grace’, ‘Prefectural Governor’, ‘Minister’, and ‘Hui Kui’, showing the achievements and status of several generations of the Zhang family.
The ‘Jinshi of Successive Generations’ memorial archway was erected by Zhang Lun, Zhang Xuanying, and Zhang Chaofeng in the 23rd year of Jiajing. The ‘Enlightened Grace’ memorial archway was erected by Zhang Xuanmei during the Zhengde period. The ‘Prefectural Governor’ memorial archway was erected by Zhang Xuanying during the Zhengde period. The ‘Minister’ memorial archway was probably built in the early years of Hongzhi. The ‘Hui Kui’ memorial archway was built in the fourth year of Zhengtong. All were erected for Zhang Lun. The structure and form of the five memorial archways are all single-room forms with triple-roofed and double-eaved six pillars (with one pillar added before and after each of the two main pillars to support the eaves) made of wood and stone. The ridge is decorated with dragon kisses and is about 8 meters high. The two main pillars are square stone pillars with rounded corners. The four side pillars are round wooden pillars. The bases of the pillars are stacked with stone slabs and are about 50 or 80 centimeters high. The dougong structure on the pillars and beams has the characteristics of the times and the local area. The memorial archway group was renovated in the early Qing Dynasty, but the main part still retains the architectural style of the Ming Dynasty.Open all year round, open all day.
