Located in Shekou, Nanshan District, the Sea World Culture and Arts Center was meticulously designed by the Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect Fumihiko Maki. It was already rated by Lonely Planet as one of the ‘Top 10 Destinations to Look Forward to in 2017’ during its construction.
The main body of the art center faces threefold views: mountains, sea, and city, facing Shekou Bay, backed by Shenzhen’s Da Nanshan, and surrounded by urban landscapes. This custom-made building for Shenzhen has immediately become a must-visit landmark.
The interior of the art center is composed of six major exhibition halls: the main exhibition hall, V&A exhibition hall, landscape exhibition hall, Shenzhen Guanfu Museum, Shenzhen Shekou Museum of Reform and Opening Up, and the UNESCO Creative Cities Network Exchange Center. In addition, it is equipped with a theater, educational, and dining spaces.
Open-air grand staircases on both sides of the building serve as resting areas or venues for temporary performances, aligning perfectly with the designer’s concept of intimacy, comfort, and nature.
Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 10:00-19:00; Saturday and Sunday, 10:00-21:00, all year round.
