Shajiao Fortress is located at Shajiao Mountain, Humen Sea Mouth, and was originally built in the fifth year of the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty (1801). During the Opium War period, Shajiao Fortress and Dajiao Fortress constituted the first line of defense for the Humen Sea Mouth, earning the reputation as the first major gateway to Guangdong and the sea. The main attractions now open to the public include: Shajiao Surrender of Opium Dock Square, Binhai Terrace, Lingao Terrace, Jiebing Martyrs’ Cemetery, Jie Ma and Chen Liansheng Statues, Fishing Terrace, Meritorious Cannon, and Lin Zexu Memorial. The fortress is open all year round from 08:30 to 17:30.
