Shan Kaguan is a mountain ridge with a relatively high terrain. Its head shape is strikingly similar to a phoenix. The history of Shan Kaguan can be traced back to the second year of Qingyou in the late Southern Song Dynasty. At that time, Yuan soldiers captured Lin’an, the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty. In order to commemorate these righteous men, the Yilie Temple was established in the middle of the Ming Dynasty to enshrine and offer sacrifices to them. Huang Wan, the grandson-in-law of the descendants of the Bao family and who once served as the minister of the Ministry of Rites, wrote ‘A Brief Record of the Yilie Temple’, describing the deeds of these righteous men and saying that their spirit ‘shines infinitely’. Later, Maoxie Shankeling was renamed Shakeling, and later by homophony it became Shan Kaling. Open all year round, open all day.
