The Shangde Pawnshop was built in the late Qing Dynasty. The front part is a pawnshop and the back part is a residence. It is a commercial and residential compound for merchants. Facing east, on the central axis are successively the gatehouse, the ceremonial gate, the front building, and the back building. On both sides are connected wing buildings and some annexes. The total construction area is 1229 square meters. The Shangde Pawnshop has a reasonable layout, is regular and orderly. It combines commerce and residence with clear functional zoning. The building structure has local traditional characteristics. The wood carvings and brick carvings are relatively exquisite. It is a typical commercial and residential building in Shaoxing in the late Qing Dynasty. It is well-preserved and provides a typical example for studying the layout and development history of traditional pawnshops.
