The Shanggangtang Ancient Architectural Complex is located in Xiacengpu Town, Jiangyong County, Hunan Province. In the first year of the Tang Dynasty’s Dahe era (827 AD), the Zhou family settled in Shanggangtang, and the village’s name, location, and the residing family have remained unchanged ever since. The name Shanggangtang, which includes the word ‘Gantang’, reflects the remembrance of the ancestors’ glory. The village is named Shanggangtang due to its location upstream of the Xiemuhe River. This ancient village, a millennium old, abounds in cultural relics and historical sites, including the Shouxuan Pavilion, Zhonghou Temple, Yuebei Pavilion cliff inscriptions, and ancient dwellings with a long history and well-preserved condition.
