The Shanghai Art Museum houses a collection of distinctive art gifts, including the Qing Dynasty Prince Chengzhe’s annotated ‘Wenxuan’, Liang Qichao’s calligraphy masterpiece ‘Lin Zhang Qian Bei’, Liang Sicheng’s manuscript of ‘A History of Chinese Sculpture’, and the peacock skirt of the famous dancer Yang Liping, all of which are unique pieces in China. The museum has also been involved in major international events such as the Shanghai World Expo and the Shanghai World Swimming Championships. In addition to a large collection of works by Chinese calligraphers and national masters of arts and crafts, the museum has also collected works from Japanese Cultural Merit Award artist Asazō Isokichi, Japanese Living National Treasures Tokuda Hachikichi, Yoshida Mitsunobu, and Nakagawa Mamoru, as well as works from dozens of famous Korean artists. Furthermore, the museum has successively held exhibitions with broad social impact, such as the costume design exhibition of the famous dancer Yang Liping, the art exhibition of Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin’s collection, and the calligraphy and painting exhibition of Chen Peiqiu, among others.
