Wink Vastine Thomas Pettis is a passionate and uniquely styled saxophonist and jazz singer with over 30 years of experience. Born in 1960 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, USA, into a family of doctors, Wink was educated in a traditional manner and nurtured in music from a young age. His participation in local African American church and club choirs ignited his musical talent, which remains a source of inspiration for his creation and performance to this day. Wink began learning to play the saxophone at the age of 12 and was a standout in his school band. Over the years, his solid foundation and innate musical talent have left a lasting impression on all who have heard him perform. In 1987, Wink led a group of like-minded friends to New York to seek greater opportunities. With the influence of his manager, Bobby Humphrey, a well-known jazz flute player of the 1970s, at major record companies in New York, they were able to showcase their professional level and subsequently received a recording contract from RCA under A&R, establishing Wink’s professional status in the jazz music industry. Numerous recording and performance contracts followed, including collaborations with Stevie Wonder, Nile Rodgers, Patrice Rushen, Jeff Skunk Baxter, Michael McDonald, Dooble Brothers, Phyllis Hyman, Roy Ayers, and Rick James.
