The performance group is the RJ Jazz Orchestra, one of the most experienced jazz orchestras in the country since its establishment in September 2011. The orchestra pursues high quality in the art of jazz music, with a repertoire that spans from traditional American jazz from the 1930s and the golden age of big bands, to contemporary pop, funk, rock, and other musical styles, as well as well-known jazz music and songs from movies. The meaning of RJ is ‘Real & Jazz’, as the RJ Jazz Orchestra not only senses and spreads the charm of jazz but also interprets a positive and upward-looking attitude towards life through music, which is the love for jazz and the joy of living that forms the slogan of RJ: ‘Love Jazz, Enjoy Life’. Singer: Zheng Yanan – A talented singer who has been studying vocal music since childhood, focusing on the vocal field since 2010, with rich live performance experience and solid vocal skills. Her achievements are remarkable, having won the 2015 Jiuguang Good Voice Champion and the third place in Suzhou’s Top Ten Young Singers, and has made appearances in several important occasions, including as a special guest at Zheng Jun’s Suzhou concert and the only Chinese singer at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Beijing News. Zheng Yanan not only performs at well-known jazz bars and live houses domestically and internationally, she is also a collaborating singer for top brand events, such as Mercedes-Benz and Cadillac launches.Her outstanding performance has won unanimous praise from industry peers, truly embodying a singer who combines musical talent with professional quality. The Philharmonic ‘Jazz Life’ series features the RJ Jazz Orchestra, established in Shanghai in September 2011, and is one of the most experienced jazz orchestras in the country. Since its establishment, the orchestra has pursued high quality in the art of jazz music, with a repertoire that spans from traditional American jazz of the 1930s and the golden age of big bands to contemporary pop, funk, and rock music styles. Past music directors and conductors include jazz saxophonist, educator, and composer Qian Yu, and vocal artist and vocal educator Sun Lisha. The current conductor is saxophonist, educator Xue Yue. RJ stands for ‘Real & Jazz’, where ‘Real’ refers to genuine self, emotions, environment, difficulties, reality, happiness, perseverance, and ‘Jazz’ refers to the orchestra’s musical origins, the refinement of jazz, direction, goals, and commitment. Through the growth process of overcoming various difficulties, the jazz passion and team cohesion that emerge have become the driving force for this group to strive and never give up. While RJ perceives and spreads the charm of jazz, it interprets a positive and upward life attitude with music, which is precisely the love for jazz and the philosophy of enjoying life that forms RJ’s slogan ‘Love Jazz, Enjoy Life’. In June 2013, the orchestra collaborated with Hollywood composer and Emmy Award winner for Best Music Composition, Chinese Film Huabiao Award winner for Best Music Composition, the renowned composer Nathan Wang, to score the film ‘My Lucky Star’, produced and starred in by Zhang Ziyi. The subsequent soundtrack album of the same name was released on iTunes. RJ Orchestra, brought together by pure love, widely attracts musical talents. For several years, it has been invited to perform at China’s largest jazz festival, the ‘Shanghai Jazz Festival’, and has been named the best jazz team. The orchestra has won the championship of the Jazz Talent Finals ‘Most Professional Jazz Talent’. It has been invited for interviews by mainstream media such as ‘Shanghai Daily’, ‘City Weekend’, ‘The Bund’, and Shanghai Foreign Language Channel.
