The Shanghai Customs House is located on Zhongshan East 1st Road. The entrance features a typical Doric colonnade. The ceiling of the entrance hall is decorated with a nautical pattern of sail shadows pieced together with colorful mosaics, which is extremely exquisite. The Customs House is known for its towering bell tower and large clock. The position of the flagpole on the bell tower is the landmark of Shanghai’s geographical location and is also one of the grandest buildings on the Bund. The bell tower is Gothic in style and has ten floors. The Customs House stands majestically on the bank of the Huangpu River. On the Bund, one can hear its sonorous and passionate bell ringing. Open all year round, open all day. The exterior is open all day.
