The Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center’s play ‘Father’ tells the story of the elderly Andre, who finds himself increasingly unable to recognize the reality around him: familiar things are disappearing, familiar faces are becoming strangers… His memories and sense of time are becoming more and more confused. He doesn’t know where he is, doesn’t understand why his daughter insists on finding him a carer, and doesn’t comprehend why strangers keep intruding into his life…

‘Father’ has won the prestigious French dramatic award, the Molière Drama Award for Best Playscript in 2014, and was nominated for the Tony, Laurence Olivier, London Evening Standard, and New York Outer Critics Circle awards for Best Playscript from 2015 to 2016. To date, its various stage versions have been performed in over 45 countries worldwide.

The film adaptation of ‘Father’ (also known as ‘The Father’), has received over a hundred nominations for film awards from various countries and has won more than thirty major awards, including the Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actor at the 93rd Academy Awards.
