Shanghai Gongwu Theater

Shanghai Gongwu Theater is one of the four major Peking Opera stages in Shanghai in the 1930s. Before liberation, this theater was famous for its mechanical stage settings and the performance of long serial Peking Opera plays with Shanghai style, such as ‘Burning of Red Lotus Temple’, ‘Romance of Hongbi’ and ‘Taiping Heavenly Kingdom’, and was very popular among a group of audience from the citizen class.
