Shanghai Historical Collection Museum

The Shanghai Historical Collection Museum displays a small portion of Mr. Zhang Jianming’s extensive collection of over ten thousand items, yet it is already a dazzling array of beauty and richness. A variety of old maps of Shanghai from different periods are hung across the entire wall, and at the stairway’s counter, there is an old-fashioned telephone and an English version of the 1940s Shanghai telephone directory, along with old books and periodicals.

The physical exhibits are even more abundant: from gas lamps, cookie tins, milk bottles, to staplers, blood pressure monitors, Fahrenheit thermometers, to fire extinguishers, police batons, car license plates, bicycle license plates, door plates, and even a checkbook from the Bank of America, as well as two scales with a history of over a hundred years and a pair of handmade ‘He Ming’ brand men’s leather shoes from the 1930s.

.. Each item uniquely reflects the living conditions of the people at that time. The museum is open all year round from 9:00 to 21:00.
