Shanghai Mass Art Center

The Shanghai Mass Art Center was built on December 30, 1956. After several disintegrations, restorations, and relocations, in June 2001, it was relocated to its current address (formerly the Shanghai Opera School). In 2006, it underwent expansion and renovation. Currently, it has a building area of more than 17,300 square meters.
The tasks and responsibilities of the current Mass Art Center are as follows:

1. Undertake various social and cultural art activities sponsored by the government and organize and carry out various social and cultural art activities.


2. Provide various healthy and beneficial public cultural services for society.


3. Organize the creation of mass literary and artistic works.


4. Coach and train community cultural instructors and social literary and artistic teams.


5. Collect, sort out, research, and develop ethnic and folk cultures, and excavate, protect, and inherit folk cultural heritages.


6. Organize and carry out research on mass culture theory.


7. Guide grass-roots cultural centers and cultural stations (centers) to carry out mass cultural work.


8. Carry out foreign exchanges in mass culture and promote the long-standing culture of the Chinese nation.
