The Shanghai Ming Contemporary Art Museum, established in 2014 by the Mingyuan Group, is a new venue transformed from the workshop of the Shanghai Paper Machinery Factory, which was once known as a ‘garden factory’ in the last century. The museum retains the original industrial building’s framework structure and its simple, rustic characteristics.

The museum, with a U-shaped space, forms a complete sunken stage structure, covering an area of 3,500 square meters, divided into two levels with an interior height of 15 meters. It is suitable for various experimental theaters and thematic contemporary art exhibitions.

Located in the Mingyuan Forest City residential area and Lan Cui Yuan villa area in Zhabei District, Shanghai, the museum is a non-profit contemporary art center funded by the Shanghai Mingyuan Group. Among the many private art museums in Shanghai, the Ming Contemporary Art Museum has set a clear direction for its work. The museum will focus on promoting contemporary art activities based on visual performance. It pays special attention to experimental theaters and multimedia exhibitions, and involves activities related to performance concepts, such as installation, painting, sculpture, video, sound, poetry, and dance. The museum promotes in-depth experimentation and cross-domain communication in these fields, establishes extensive international cooperation, and creates a professional platform for multimedia exhibitions.

Opening hours: The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00-18:00, all year round; it is closed all day on Mondays.
